I have met my old friend, whom I have not seen for many years.
We discussed many things, but this is what I want to tell you:
My friend is an expert in autos while I have to drive a lot. With astonishment I found out that did some things for many year in a wrong way. For example:
Once in Finland I had a long way on the show-covered road and when I had to brake even all those electronic devices in the car did not help me to avoid the rotation. I tried to keep the car and thought only of how not to be thrown away from the road. I was lucky that there was no one at that moment on the road. The reminiscence about this tortured me for long and for long I was afraid to drive on snow.
As my friend advise I did everything wrong in that situation.
The car was front-wheel-drive - that is the engine drives only front wheels.
After I understood that I was losing control of the car I needed to step on the gas instead of braking, the car would manage the situation on its own.
Also I asked my friend about sports mode of operation of my car.
Here is what I learnt:
The sports mode is, though automatic, equipped with the hand shifting, that is having pushed the lever to Plus, you can switch to higher drive, of to push to Minus - you switch to lower drive accordingly.
For instance, if you want to suddenly speed up, you chose Minus one drive to lower one and step on the gas - without losing time for automatic machine thinking as its time of reaction is anyway more than the mechanics' one.
Ok, what is then the Plus option in sports mode for? One does not need to wait until the automatic device switches to a higher drive, but can do it on his own.
For example: being in sports mode you drive to a hill with the third drive on, here you push one drive down, step on the gas and with the second drive you fly up the hill and at that, as distinguished from automatic machine, which has no eyes, you know that now the slope is to begin and you switch to one step of higher drive, again some gas and fly down from the hill. Meanwhile the automatic machine would make sure first that you really started movement down the hill and only then would switch to a higher drive. Though actually, with the automatic gearbox all these options are only to entertain the user, to let him feel the drive when pushing the lever and pretending to be Colin McRae... a toy for the rich (fuel consumption) crazy (what races can be with 2 ton jeeps?!) muddle-headed persons.
That's it! Absolutely free driving training courses :)
